A Life Celebrated
SS Bir Singh Khalsa was born April 18, 1946, in Chicago, IL, and died August 25, 2022, in Albuquerque, NM. He graduated from Brother Rice College in Davenport, Iowa. He taught 4th grade in Chicago for a few years after graduation. He discovered Kundalini Yoga in 1972 in Houston, TX, where he worked in the ashram restaurant business.
From Houston he moved to Phoenix, AZ to study Kundalini Yoga with the teacher there and met and married his wife Bir Kaur in 1973. He and his wife moved to Kings Beach Lake Tahoe in the fall of the same year and established a small ashram. He taught yoga all around Lake Tahoe for 2 years. They also had two children in that little ashram, Kirpal Singh and Dharma Kaur.
For 50 years he lived the 3HO Kundalini Yoga lifestyle, teaching yoga and enjoying the events. He became a Sikh minister in 1973 and loved participating in Sikh Dharma. He worked at and ran several ashram businesses including Golden Temple restaurants, a juice company in Phoenix, AZ and GT Natural Food delivery company in Seattle, Washington, serving the Inland Empire of Washington, Idaho, and Montana.
Bir Singh was a loving and absolutely devoted husband, father, and grandfather, giving his all and always focusing on the well-being and happiness of his loved ones. He will be profoundly missed. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years Bir Kaur, his stepchildren Stacie Smith and Kelly Creps, his children Casey Conway and Dharma Kaur Best and grandchildren Paramanand Singh Best and Ardas Singh Best.
