The concept of Collective Efficacy posits that together we can make meaningful change in our community, whether or not we agree on everything. Working together, anything is possible. Our 2023 Ministry Newsletter series features this concept front and center.
What we have collectively experienced in our international sangat mirrors the model of what occurs when an individual undergoes the disruption and dysregulation of a traumatic event. To address this, in the four issues of the newsletter we will share with our readers the progressive arc of the resolution of trauma.
For our February issue, we shared tools that Ministers have drawn on to stabilize themselves following the traumatic upheaval within our community. The May issue spoke to re-establishing self-regulation—finding a place of calmness, protection and receptivity—a safe harbor where one can be responsive to one’s own needs as well as those of others.
Our August issue focuses on how Ministers can draw on these personal resources as they minister to their communities—holding space for others to regain their own sense of equilibrium and self-regulation.
Our authors for this issue were asked to reflect on the following questions:
How can we indirectly guide others to a place of calm? How can we best support ourselves, our friends, our communities, and our fellow sangat members during these times of challenge? How can we be present for each other moment-to-moment? What are ways that we can bring our community together during these times?
