Sat Naam Ministers,
For years, I lived with a subtle restlessness—a feeling of always worrying about something or someone, and not being satisfied with my life. It wasn’t until I experienced Shuniya through the vibration of Shabad Guru during an extremely challenging time in my life that I was able to meditatively understand its true essence.
As a Sikh woman, wife, mother, daughter, friend, and Kundalini Yoga teacher, I’ve come to see that true fulfillment in life lies in the ability to tap into presence. Shuniya is about being fully here—a state of non-resistance.
I used to think I was a good listener, but I realized I was often only half-present, already forming my next response or subtly judging the other person or situation. Now, I see a profound difference when I practice deep listening, which is the foundation to developing inner silence and letting go of the resistances the mind creates. It allows me to connect at a much deeper level and experience the innocence in the other person.
This has been tremendously powerful when teaching Kundalini Yoga and serving as a Sikh Minister. It enables me to identify the root cause of someone’s pain or frustration, and support them with greater clarity and compassion.
I highly recommend making it a daily practice to return to inner silence—whether through Jaapa, Simran, cooking, caring for others, or even while showering! This state of stillness must be cultivated again and again, throughout the day, as much as possible. Finding the right tool to help you enter Shuniya more effortlessly is key.
For me, the mantra “Humee Hum Brahm Hum” has been a lifeline many times. The secret is to put your heart into it—don’t do it from the mind. When you do, you will experience profound results, and see life in a new and more fulfilling way. It’s amazing!
